My Story
I always enjoyed drawing as a kid but it was just a bit of fun and nothing that I ever took too seriously! Being the son of an Architect and a Drafts Woman I guess I had drawing in my blood, though I could never stand the rigid rules and structure of those professions so following in my parents footsteps was never on the cards.
After drifting through life pretty aimlessly, It wasn’t until a good friend of mine (who I still work with today) was making an independent film that I rediscovered my love of drawing. Being aware that I had some artistic ability he asked if I would create storyboards for the film and I gladly accepted.
I soon realised how rusty I was but at the same time found myself becoming obsessed with practicing and learning drawing fundamentals, I soon found myself devouring every YouTube tutorial I could find!
This coincidentally happened at the same time I had rediscovered my love for old toys and comics, having been sorting through my boxes in the attic (hence the name of this site!) I found my MOTU figures, M.A.S.K toys, Star Wars memorabilia, Starcom vehicles and much much more. The most profound find though was my old Transformers comics - The pang of nostalgia was incredible and it sent me down a rabbit hole of collecting every issue and all the free gifts that were released in the UK (see pics below).
It seemed like a natural fit to put these two passions together and create art based on the old toys and comics that I loved as a child. Hence the artofcarroll Instagram page was created and everything grew from there. I am so thankful to all the amazing people that have shown support for my artwork and hopefully you will enjoy checking out my creations in the future and perhaps even buying a piece or two along the way!
If you got this far, thank you for reading and I hope you’ll continue on this journey with me.
Till all are one…
Cheers!
